This porcine survival study assessed the effect of electrocautery setting on tissue injury following 45 endoscopic mucosal resections in the esophagus in 12 pigs. Low power coagulation resulted in a quantifiably deeper depth of ulceration, necrosis, and acute inflammation compared with microprocessor-controlled blended current. The authors conclude that microprocessor-controlled blended current should be the preferred mode for esophageal mucosal resections.
