Photodynamik in der Parodontitis- und Periimplantitistherapie

Therapiekonzepte auf der Grundlage photodynamischer Wirkungsmechanismen haben in der Zahnmedizin in den vergangenen Jahren vermehrt Aufmerksamkeit erfahren. Vor allem in Bereich der Parodontologie sind die bisherigen Ergebnisse klinischer Studien ermutigend, mit der antimikrobiellen photodynamischen Therapie (aPDT) einen adjunktiven antimikrobieller Ansatz für präventive und therapeutische Behandlungsroutinen ohne die Nachteile von Antibiotikaanwendungen zur Verfügung zu haben. Photodynamische Behandlungskonzepte können unter anderem sowohl im Rahmen des parodontologischen als auch implantologischen Biofilm-Managements eingesetzt werden. Dabei dient ein durch Lichtenergie angeregter Photosensibilisator als Mediator für die Entstehung reaktiver Sauerstoffspezies, die Mikroorganismen abtöten und somit systematische antiinfektiöse Therapiemaßnahmen unterstützen können.
