Summary

Serum thrombotic accelerator (STA) activity was shown to be definitely decreased in the blood of a group of newborn infants. Both newborn serum and BaS04 eluates of serum dialyzed against saline were devoid of clot promoting activity when the in vivo STA assay of Wessler was used. However, serum eluates dialyzed against distilled water showed good STA activity; therefore, an inhibitor, removed by water dialysis, was suggested to be present in newborn serum.
