Summary

The morphology and development of chick embryo thrombocytes were studied with the PAS technique. A line of thrombocyte development was established, first recognizable in stage 12 (49 hours) embryos. The relative frequencies of the different precursor stages in embryos of varying age were investigated. Principally, the development of the thrombocytes seems to follow the same line in hatched chicken.

Our findings suggest that the process of cell multiplication is completed by amitotic division in stages II—III.
