Cochlear implantation surgery has become less traumatic in the recent years.

Our Goal was to develop a standartirized minimal- invasive and atraumatic surcigal procedure for implementation in the clinical routine.

In a monocentric study 30 consecutive patients from 8 – 82yrs. were treated with our minimal invasive approach. This consisted of a skin incision no longer than 25 mm, the Drilling of a bony bed for the implant, a minimized mastoidectomy of 1,5 sq cm and a round window Approach fot the electrode. Follow up was up to 15 mts.

In 29/30 patients the method was successfully performed. There was no elevated complication rate observed. The Duration of the procedure was 60 – 90 mts in most cases. Pain and stay in the ward could be reduced. There was no revision necessary.

From the current experience it can be concluded that our minimal-invasive approach is a safe procedure in children and adults..
