Summary

Paired kinetic studies in conjunction with balance studies of calcium were carried out in a child aged seven months before and after vitamin D. Stable ⁴⁶Ca enriched to 6.48 mole per cent was used as tracer. Changes in ⁴⁶Ca abundance in urinary and faecal calcium samples were determined by neutron activation analysis. Calculations of kinetic parameters of calcium metabolism were done by standard methods using a single-compartment model of calcium metabolism. This type of study does not subject the investigated child to any radiation dose, gives reliable results and seems to be the method of choice for solving problems of bone mineral metabolism in paediatrics.

L’étude cinétique liée à celle du bilan du Calcium a été effectuée chez un enfant de 7 mois avant et après l’administration de la vitamine D. Comme traceur a été utilisé le Calcium stable ⁴⁶Ca enrichi jusqu’à 6,48 mol pour-cent. Les variations du taux de ⁴⁶Ca dans les urines et dans les fecès ont été déterminées par l’analyse d’activation neutronique. L’analyse mathématique des paramètres cinétiques du métabolisme du Calcium a été effectuée par des méthodes standard en appliquant le modèle du compartiment unique. Cet examen n’expose pas l’enfant au risque des radiations et aboutit à des résultats valables. La méthode paraît constituer en pédiatrie un procédé de choix pour la solution des problèmes du métabolisme minéral du squelette.

Bei einem 7monatigen Kind wurde die Bilanz und die Stoffwechselkinetik des Calciums vor und nach Vitamin-D-Gaben untersucht. Stabiles ⁴⁶Ca, das zu einer Konzentration von 6,48 Mol-Prozent angereichert war, wurde als Tracer verwendet. Das Vorkommen des ⁴⁶Ca in Harn- und Stuhl-Calcium wurde durch Neutronen-Aktivierungsanalyse bestimmt. Systemparameter des Calciumstoffwechsels wurden auf der Basis eines Einkammersystems mit Standardmethoden berechnet. Es zeigte sich, daß diese Art von Untersuchung keine Bestrahlungsgefahr darstellt, zu gültigen Resultaten führt und die Methode der Wahl zur Lösung von Problemen des Knochenmineralstoffwechsels in der Pädiatrie ist.
