It is with great pleasure that we welcome Dr. Michael Link, as coeditor in chief of the Journal of Neurosurgical Surgery: Part B Skull Base. Dr. Link is a neurosurgeon at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where a major component of his practice focuses on neurosurgical aspects of skull base surgery.

He previously served as President of the North American Skull Base Society (NASBS), a position he held with great distinction. He has been a major contributor to the journal and served in several editorial positions. The continued process of providing balance between otolaryngology and neurosurgery will serve both the subspecialty and our readership.

It is with some sadness that we bid a fond farewell to Dr. Michael Gleason who has served as the senior coeditor in chief for well more than a decade. Professor Gleason accepted responsibility for the journal from Dr. Robert Spetzler. During his tenure, the journal changed its primary focus from case-based reports to original material and scientific content. The journal was reorganized with assistance from the publisher Thieme. The prominence of the journal has grown as we have published several theme type editions and incorporated panel-based articles from both the NASBS and international meetings. He oversaw the development of a case report component of the journal, which is published online. This aspect of the journal has been critical in developing young skull base surgeons career and has also allowed us to mentor the next generation of leaders for the journal. He recently completed his tenure as President of the World Federation of Skull Base Societies, creating camaraderie among the many national societies and showcasing the efforts of the journal.

On a personal note, he is the ultimate friend and confidant. He provides sage advice and insights that have been responsible for a great deal of the success of the journal during his lengthy tenure. He has promised not to be a stranger as he enters this new phase of his life. He will continue to serve the journal as Editor emeritus. His presence on a day-to-day basis will surely be missed.
