Abstract

Influenza is an infectious disease which causes significant morbidity and mortality. Complications of the disease are bronchitis, pneumonia, otitis media, rejection in recipients of transplantation, myocarditis, pericarditis, myositis, glomerulonephritis, and exacerbation of underlying disease such as asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, and chronic renal failure. Some complications may be seen in high-risk groups. The early diagnosis of the infection and prompt initiation of specific therapy is important for individuals and public health. In this review, we aimed to overview the clinical and epidemiological importance of influenza infections and to give up-to-date information about laboratory diagnosis method.
