Dr. Jason Mizell is a staff Colon and Rectal Surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas. Jason grew up in Heflin, Louisiana, a small rural farming village, along with his parents and older sister Sarah. He received his undergraduate training at Louisiana Tech University, completing a degree in Biology and Chemistry. Following this, he received his Medical School degree at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA. He subsequently performed his General Surgery Residency training at LSU Health Sciences Center prior to completing his Colon and Rectal Surgery Residency training at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Following this, he went to Arkansas where he also currently serves as the Surgery Clerkship Director.

Jason is a busy clinician and academic surgeon, as well as an active researcher. He has been awarded several departmental and College of Medicine teaching awards, and has been very involved in medical student and resident education. His current research focuses on educational research and curriculum design. In addition, he has developed two curricula on business and personal finance management for residents and medical students, and has published and spoken nationally on this topic. He is also an active participant in multiple surgical societies.

Jason and his wife, Jolie, have three kids (Kathryn, 10 years; Gavin, 8 years; and Asher, 3 years) and are about to adopt a fourth. He is very active in his local church and enjoys watching Boston Red Sox baseball.
