Es ist gut dokumentiert, dass es sich bei der dilatativen Kardiomyopathie (DCM) des Hundes um eine Erkrankung handelt, die sich oft über einen Zeitraum von mehreren Jahren schrittweise im Verborgenen entwickelt, bevor klinische Symptome entstehen. Dieses symptomfreie Stadium der Erkrankung wird als präklinische Phase bezeichnet.
