Einleitung

Die COPD zählt bei einer Prävalenz von über 13 % in der deutschen Bevölkerung (> 40 Jahren) [1] heute zweifelsohne zu den Volkskrankheiten. Hierbei steigt die Zahl der Erkrankten weiter. In den letzten Jahren haben wir andererseits einen deutlichen Wissenszuwachs bezüglich der komplexen pathogenetischen Zusammenhänge und der vielschichtigen systemischen Auswirkungen und Komplikationen erlangt [2] [3] [4].
