Die sonografische Darstellung der Nebennieren sollte Bestandteil der routinemäßigen Ultraschalluntersuchung des Abdomens sein. Bei speziellen Fragestellungen ist die Sonografie als schnelles und kostengünstiges Verfahren sogar unverzichtbar. Neben der sonografischen Anatomie der Nebennieren werden im Folgenden Grundlagen der Untersuchungstechnik sowie wichtige pathologische Befunde bei Hund, Katze und Frettchen erläutert.
