Abstract

One third of the patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDC) suffer from sudden cardiac death. Risk stratification includes clinical and electrophysiological parameters. Studies published so far concerning sudden cardiac death in IDC do not show a clear advantage of implantable – cardioverter/defibrillator (ICD) – therapy. Only studies concerning „heart failure” patients, including patients with IDC, show a statistically significant advantage of ICD therapy, especially if there is an indication for cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT).
