Entwicklungen in der Neurogenetik am Beispiel der Schizophrenie

  • Die psychiatrische Forschung hat auf dem Gebiet der Genetik rasante Fortschritte gemacht.

  • Methodische Neuentwicklungen haben zur Identifikation einer Reihe häufiger und seltener genetischer Risikofaktoren geführt und damit zur Klärung der Ätiologie dieser Erkrankungen wesentlich beigetragen.

  • Potenziell der größte Gewinn, den die praktische Psychiatrie aus der genetisch-neurogenetischen Grundlagenforschung ziehen kann, sind Ansätze, Gene zum Ausgangspunkt einer translationalen Forschung zu machen, die zur Entwicklung mechanistisch neuer Therapieverfahren führt. Die geschilderten ersten Ansatzpunkte hierfür sind erfolgversprechend und geben Anlass zur Hoffnung, mithilfe gesicherter genetischer Daten schwere psychiatrische Erkrankungen finden zu können.
