Abstract

Electrophysiological studies are important in the evaluation of disturbed sleep. Some sleep disorders are only recognisable with these methods. Besides the clinical context, sleep evaluation by polysomnography performed under standard criteria has an important place in the research on sleep and sleep disorders as well. In this review we present typical electrophysiological methods like polysomnography, the multiple sleep latency test, pupillometry and actigraphy and discuss their application.
