Studies of the effect of the intravenous injection of adrenaline on Vitamin C metabolism
in healthy subjects showed that it produced a rapid and significant fall in plasma
Vitamin C levels. The levels began to increase again before the end of the 30 minute
adrenaline infusion.
The administration of a β-blocker - Propranolol - immediately prior to the adrenaline
infusion completely abolished the Vitamin C response.
The changes in Vitamin C levels appeared unrelated to any adrenaline induced changes
in the blood sugar and plasma insulin levels.
