Summary

The author, reviewing the literature on haemorrhagic complications during anticoagulant therapy, describes his own 14 cases, i. e. 12 intracranial and 2 intraspinal haematomas.

The characteristic neurological symptoms are illustrated in detail with reference to the aetiology, and the special problems in diagnosis of theses haematomas are discussed.

Because anticoagulant drugs have highly potent effects in preventive medicine in thrombosis they are widely but often inappropriately prescribed. The author draws attention to the inherent risks of internal haemorrhage, particularly intracranial and intraspinal.
