Tumoren der Pinealisregion: Teil II: Behandlungsergebnisse bei 23 Patienten

Zusammenfassung

Bei 23 Patienten mit Tumoren in der Pinealisregion werden die Ergebnisse nach Behandlung mit Shuntoperation, Bestrahlung, Tumorexstirpation oder einer Kombination dieser Möglichkeiten gesichtet. Da die Tumorart ohne operativen Eingriff in den meisten Fällen nicht diagnostiziert werden kann, ist die Therapiewahl schwierig, da die Bestrahlung von strahlenresistenten Tumoren unnötige Umgebungsschäden anrichtet, wohingegen der Exstirpationsversuch eines strahlensensiblen Tumors eine erhebliche Gefährdung des Patienten bedeutet. Anhand der Behandlungsergebnisse wird ein therapeutischer Weg vorgeschlagen.

Summary

The outcome of 23 patients with tumours in the pineal region was investigated following treatment with shunting, irradiation, extirpation or with a combination of these three procedures. The choice of therapy is difficult because in most cases the kind of tumour is unknown. The irradiation of radioresistant lesions however causes an unnecessary injury of the surrounding tissue whereas the trial of extirpation of a radiosensitive tumour exposes the patient to an unnecessary danger. After the results of therapy a method of treatment is proposed.
