Sexpositivität – Gedanken zu einer nicht geführten Debatte in der deutschsprachigen Sexualwissenschaft

Zusammenfassung

Der Begriff Sexpositivität hat in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten international zunehmend an Bedeutung gewonnen. Im deutschsprachigen Raum hingegen bleibt eine fundierte wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung bislang weitgehend aus.

Dieser Debattenbeitrag beleuchtet die historische Entwicklung, theoretische Rahmungen sowie die vielfältigen Kontexte, in denen Sexpositivität verwendet wird. Im Fokus steht dabei die Frage nach der begrifflichen Unschärfe und ihrer möglichen Rolle für die geringe Rezeption im deutschsprachigen Wissenschaftsdiskurs. Die Autorin plädiert dafür, statt des ambivalenten Begriffs sexpositiv verstärkt von positiver Sexualität zu sprechen, um die Anschlussfähigkeit an bestehende wissenschaftliche Traditionen (z. B. Positive Psychologie) zu stärken, Missverständnisse zu vermeiden und die inter- sowie transdisziplinäre Erforschung gegenwärtiger Sexualkulturen zu fördern.

Abstract

The term sex positivity has gained increasing relevance internationally over recent decades. In German-speaking contexts, however, a thorough scholarly engagement remains largely absent. This debate article explores the historical development, theoretical frameworks, and diverse contexts in which sex positivity is invoked. Central to the discussion is the question of conceptual ambiguity and its potential role in the term’s limited uptake within German academic discourse. The author argues for a shift from the term sex-positive toward positive sexuality, in order to enhance conceptual clarity, increase compatibility with established academic traditions (e. g., positive psychology), avoid misunderstandings, and foster the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary study of contemporary sexual cultures.
