Innovative Immunmodulation zur Bekämpfung von Stoffwechselerkrankungen

Stoffwechselerkrankungen wie Typ-1-Diabetes (T1D), Typ-2-Diabetes (T2D) und Adipositas entwickeln sich zunehmend zu einer der drängendsten Gesundheitsherausforderungen unserer Zeit. Neben der hohen individuellen Belastung für Betroffene macht vor allem ihre stark steigende Inzidenz diese Erkrankungen zu einer erheblichen Herausforderung für Gesundheitssysteme und Volkswirtschaften. Während T1D durch eine autoimmune Zerstörung der insulinproduzierenden β-Zellen im Pankreas charakterisiert ist, sind Adipositas und T2D mit chronisch-entzündlichen Prozessen in metabolischen Geweben wie Fett, Muskel oder Leber verbunden.
