CAD/CAM Workflow in the Production of Metallic Orthodontic Appliances
Abstract
The CAD/CAM-technology has advanced enormously in recent years, making it possible to manufacture metal orthodontic appliances such as Rapid Palatal Expanders (RPE), Herbst appliances, tongue cribs, transpalatal and lingual arches with high precision and high patient comfort. Additive processes such as metal casting (following 3D printing of the appliance with acrylate photopolymer with wax content), metal printing (laser sintering/laser melting) and subtractive processes such as CNC milling technology can be used.
