Hirofumi Abe et al. Risk scoring system for the preprocedural prediction of the clinical
failure of peroral endoscopic myotomy: a multicenter case–control study
A risk score to preoperatively predict the clinical failure of POEM for achalasia
was developed in a Japanese cohort of 2740 patients. Based on preprocedural Eckardt
score, manometric diagnosis, and history and type of prior treatment, it was able
to identify patients at high risk of clinical failure. This new score could be used
to improve the clinical management of this group of patients.
