Radhika Chavan et al. Impact of transmural plastic stent on recurrence of pancreatic
fluid collection after metal stent removal in disconnected pancreatic duct: a randomized
controlled trial
Disconnected pancreatic duct after development of walled-off necrosis (WON) predisposes
to recurrent (peri)pancreatic fluid collection (PFC). This randomized controlled trial
involved 104 patients with resolution of WON and with disconnected pancreatic duct.
Replacement of large-caliber metal stents with plastic stents did not significantly
reduce recurrent PFC compared with no further stenting. Recurrent PFCs, if they occur,
are usually asymptomatic and do not require reintervention.
