EFSUMB 50^th years anniversary: a call for participation and support

February 11, 2022, marks the 50^th anniversary of the founding of European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB). Our next EUROSON Congress from 25–28 May 2022 in Timisoara, jointly organised with World Federation of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB) and the Romanian Ultrasound Society, will provide the opportunity to celebrate the 50 years success story of the European Ultrasound Family. Reflecting on our own roots can open the horizons to how today’s problems can be more easily overcome. Pride in the achievements of ultrasound pioneers, organizers of milestone congresses of EFSUMB and its national member societies, and the developers of new ultrasound technologies should stimulate us to develop new ideas for the future of ultrasound.

We need your support to make this anniversary a success!

These are the 50^th anniversary projects for which we need your contributions:

1. Compilation of the “History of ultrasound” section on our website

We kindly request all member societies and members of the EFSUMB to add their national ultrasound histories to the “History of Ultrasound” section of our website. 10 national societies already have contributed: Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Norway, Slovakia, Switzerland, Ukraine and United Kingdom.

2. Anniversary booklet

We are planning an anniversary booklet on “50 years of EFSUMB” for all participants of the congress in Timișoara. This booklet is intended to make the history of the EFSUMB come alive with anecdotes, photographs, etc., to arouse positive emotions in the sense of attachment to the EFSUMB and to formulate wishes, expectations, perspectives and challenges for the future of the EFSUMB from the “appointed mouth” of former EFSUMB presidents, representatives of national member societies and representatives of the ultrasound vendors. This brochure is intended to illustrate and bring to life the highlights from 50 years inspiring readers to visit the EFSUMB website for more information. This is only possible with you, who have experienced and shaped these 50 years. We need your memories, anecdotes and historical photographs – from congresses, meeting, events as well as historical ultrasound images and photographs from historical ultrasound machines. We already have the support of the German Ultrasound Museum, but we need contributions from all over Europe.

3. Anniversary Ultrasound Quiz

Please help us by sending interesting historical ultrasound images from your archives and the archives of your teachers and companions to create an Anniversary Ultrasound Quiz for the Congress in Timișoara. We need good quality historical ultrasound images from the archives of ultrasound pioneers and ultrasound companies with comments and related questions.
