On behalf of ESGE, I wish you all a Happy New Year.

Looking back, 2018 was an excellent year for ESGE. The launch of our first congress, ESGE Days 2018, was a landmark for our society. The 1,400 participants who came together in Budapest experienced an extensive programme dedicated solely to endoscopy. The enthusiastic reception reinforced ESGE’s decision to hold this new congress every year. We look forward to welcoming you to ESGE Days 2019, April 4 – 6 in Prague where we are expecting more than double the amount of participants.

Alongside the work of our traditional committees (guidelines, research, education and quality improvement), in 2018, several other more recently initiated activities were kept busy developing projects.

The curricula, patients and eLearning working groups are very active. Also, the membership, international and online seminar working groups played important roles in 2018. The ESGE Young Endoscopist (EYE) working group has drafted a programme for the EYE Zone at ESGE Days 2019. They are also actively involved in several other working groups and ESGE committees, giving insight into the needs and interests of the upcoming young generation of endoscopists.

Looking ahead, we have a lot of work to do, continuing our quest to improve quality in endoscopy with the support of our members and your involvement. We anticipate an exciting year ahead and very much hope to greet you all in Prague!
