Summary

Sonography of peripheral nerves is most frequently used in entrapment neuropathies. This article aims to provide an overview of the typical sonographic findings and of the additional diagnostic value of sonography compared with electrodiagnostic studies in common nerve entrapment syndromes such as carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar neuropathy at the elbow and the wrist, supinator syndrome, lateral femoral cutaneous neuropathy (meralgia paresthetica), common fibular neuropathy, and tarsal tunnel syndrome.
