Der Harnwegskatheter ist elementarer Bestandteil im täglichen Umgang mit Harnblasenentleerungsstörungen, dem perioperativen Bilanzmanagement oder diagnostischen Fragestellungen. Etwa 80% der als nosokomial eingestuften Harnwegsinfekte sind katheterassoziiert [1]. Eine indikationsgerechte Handhabung von Kathetern kann somit die Häufigkeit von Infektionen oder anderen Komplikationen reduzieren.
