Abstract

The sensitivity of conventional microbiological techniques for the diagnosis of neonatal bacterial meningitis is often inadequate. We review our data, discuss recent technological advances and argue that polymerase chain reaction targeted against microorganisms commonly involved in this condition could offer important advantages in the diagnosis and management of this condition.
