January 2020 marks the beginning of our third year serving as editors-in-chief of Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria [1]. During the last two years, we did our best to increase the scientific quality and the international visibility of our journal. We made several changes in the journal layout. Different colors were adopted and images were included in the cover of each printed issue, together with changes in the format of text and tables. The associate editors, the editorial board members and our reviewers provided an immense contribution, evaluating a large number of manuscripts and assisting us in editorial decisions. We are extremely grateful to all these colleagues, as well as to the researchers who published their works in the journal. These valuable efforts allowed us to reach our highest impact factor ever, namely 1.048, in the 2018 Journal Citation Reports database.

Nevertheless, we know that the road ahead is long and challenging. In this sense, additional changes are under way. We have a new publisher (Zeppelini), which has worked with the journal in the past and is now back to assist us in the publication process. Mrs. Fabiana Montanari Lapido has recently joined Arquivos as executive editor, a novel position in the journal staff. Mrs. Lapido has a great editorial experience and expertise, which shall contribute with the journal plans for the next years. She will work closely with us and with Mrs. Denise Ieiri de Moraes, our supportive editorial assistant, to improve the quality of Arquivos, the editorial process and the communication with the journal board, reviewers, contributors and readers. In addition, we expect to launch our website soon (http://arquivosdeneuropsiquiatria.org/). Although the journal’s content will continue to be accessible through the SciELo webpage, the new site shall allow a better interaction with authors and readers.

Noteworthy, the journal will continue to have no publication fees and to be open-access. This is only possible through the fundamental support of the Brazilian Academy of Neurology, in particular the executive board of directors and the deliberative council, acknowledging the strategic importance of a scientific publication in Neurology and Neurosciences in our region. In this sense, we are committed to expand the leading role of Arquivos in the field of Neurological Sciences in Brazil and Latin America.

We wish a happy and fruitful new year to our editorial board colleagues, authors and readers.
