Summary

In this case report we describe a 64-year-old female patient who developed a chronic ulcer on the right dorsomedial lower leg after acupuncture treatment for osteoarthritis of her right knee. Duplex ultrasound revealed insufficiency of the short saphenous veins (SSV) in both legs and a periulcerous varicose tributary of the right SSV. Since the patient refused surgical treatment, foam sclerotherapy of the periulcerous varicosis was undertaken. This resulted in complete healing of the ulceration within 12 weeks.
