ABSTRACT

This paper describes the most common alterations in neck contour produced by the aging process. First, the author's ideas about the role of platysma muscle and the other anatomic elements in causing neck deformities are outlined, followed by a thorough description of the platysma muscle's anatomy. The author's surgical preferences are then detailed and discussed.

Finally, the principal complications of surgery for the correction of platysmal deformities are presented and suggestions for avoiding them are provided.
