The Investigation of the Madagascar plant Symphonia tanalensis Jum. & H. Perrier (Clusiaceae) for antiproliferative activity against A2780 ovarian cancer cell line led to the isolation of four guttiferone analogs and one xanthone derivative. On the basis of 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data, the xanthone derivative 1 was determined to be a new natural product. The structure elucidation of the guttiferones will be reported. Compound 1 showed antiproliferative activitiy against the A2780 human ovarian cancer cell line with an IC50 value of 3.3 µg/mL, and the guttiferone analogs exhibited similar activities with IC50 values around 3 µg/mL.
