Abstract

Extract of Juniperus communis fruits in 50 % ethanol has been screened for anti-fertility activity in Swiss albino female rats. 300 mg and 500 mg of the drug per kg body weight of the rat was administered orally from day 1 to 7 of pregnancy. Laparotomy on 10 th day revealed an antiimplantation activity which was found to depend upon the dose of the drug. The drug was also found to possess abortifacient activity at both the dose levels when administered on days 14, 15 and 16 of pregnancy. No evidence of teratogenicity was observed.
