Abstract

A high speed liquid chromatographic method was developed for swertiamarin, the main component of Swertiae Herba, using a ODS column and H20-methanol mobile phases. From the precision and recovery rates in standard addition test, this quantitative method appears to be an excellent one. Using this method, the content of swertiamarin was found to be 1.5 to 3.6 per cent in Swertiae Herba.
