Abstract
O-methylflavmantine, an alkaloid with a morphinan structure from the plant Rhigiocarya racemifera, has been shown to depress the response of the isolated guinea-pig ileum to coaxial electrical stimulation. The depressant effect was dose dependent and the dose-response effect was more reproducible with the alkaloid than with morphine. The alkaloid showed very little tendency towards the development of tachyphylaxis and its depressant effect was not antagonised by nalorphine.
