Unrecognized Posterior Urethral Valves in the Adult and the Problem of Associated Renal DysplasiaPublication History

Abstract
Three cases of congenital posterior urethral valves in adult males are presented. The symptoms and clinical findings of the disease can vary and mimic other conditions. At the time of diagnosis and in spite of many earlier urological investigations two patients had end stage renal failure requiring dialysis and one of them subsequently received two cadaver renal transplants.
In reviewing the literature the question whether the finding of true renal dysplasia in patients with severe upper tract damage is co-existing with or secondary to posterior urethral valves cannot be answered conclusively.
