Abstract

This article summarizes an overview of percutaneous cholecystostomy. Indications, including acute cholecystitis, gallbladder access for stone removal, drainage of common duct obstruction, and diagnostic cholangiography, are outlined. The anatomy of the gallbladder and liver attachments and their importance and implications for cholecystostomy are outlined. The specific techniques for cholecystostomy, including imaging guidance, access techniques, catheter systems, complications, and technical problems, are included in this article.
