Rupture of aneurysms during angiography: Report of two cases and review of the literature

Summary

Two cases of rupture of intracranial aneurysms with contrast extravasation during angiography are reported. One was an aneurysm of the internal carotid bifurcation and the other a carotid posterior communicating aneurysm. The previously reported cases are analysed and the pathogenetic mechanisms thought to underlie the phenomenon discussed. The prognosis is anyway very poor.

Zusammenfassung

Die Verfasser berichten über zwei Fälle einer Ruptur eines intrakraniellen Aneurysmas mit Kontrastmittelextravasation während der Angiographie. In einem Falle handelte es sich um ein Aneurysma der Endaufteilung der A. carotis interna, während beim anderen Fall ein Karotis-Kavernosus-Aneurysma vorlag. Die bereits früher berichteten Fälle werden analysiert und die angenommenen pathogenetischen Mechanismen besprochen. Die Prognose ist in jedem Falle infaust.
