Choroid plexus papillomas - Neuroradiological diagnosis

Summary

The radiographic data on 28 cases of papilloma of the choroid plexuses observed at the Neurosurgical Institute of Rome Medical School in the space of 27 years, are presented and compared with the published series. On the present evidence CT has a high diagnostic value in this disease, although angiography is still generally necessary for a pre-operative type diagnosis. A correct and early radiodiagnosis is very important since surgical removal yields good results as long as the tumour is not too large.

Zusammenfassung

Der vorliegende Artikel bringt radiographische Daten über 28 Fälle von Plexuspapillomen, die am Neurochirurgischen Institut der Universität Rom in einem Zeitraum von 27 Jahren beobachtet wurden. Diese Fälle werden mit früher veröffentlichten Daten verglichen. Es ergibt sich, daß die Computertomographie bei dieser Erkrankung von hohem diagnostischem Wert ist, obwohl auch die Angiographie noch immer allgemein erforderlich ist, um die Art der Erkrankung präoperativ festzustellen. Korrekte und frühe Strahlendiagnostik ist sehr wichtig, da eine operative Entfernung gute Ergebnisse zeitigt, solange der Tumor noch nicht zu groß geworden ist.
