Abstract

Estimation of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) from inulin clearance (CIn), creatinine clearance (CCr) and according to the formula 38 × length (cm)/serum creatinine (μmol/l) (CF) was performed in 50 children.

With CF only determination of serum creatinine is necessary, while urine collection and determination of urinary creatinine excretion is redundant. Our study revealed an excellent correlation of CIn with CF (r = 0,91) which is superior to that of CIn with CCr (r = 0,82). Our conclusion, therefore, is that the 24-hour CCr should be abandoned as an estimate of GFR in children.
