Zusammenfassung
Berberis vulgaris, die Berberitze, aus der Familie der Berberidaceae, ist in Mitteleuropa und in anderen
Regionen der Erde beheimatet. Alle Pflanzenteile werden seit Langem in der traditionellen
Medizin verwendet, insbesondere im Mittelalter bei entzündlichen Erkrankungen, Verdauungsstörungen,
Leber-, Milz- und Gallenblasenbeschwerden und bei Infektionen. Pflanzenteile von B. vulgaris werden jedoch heute in Mitteleuropa - im Gegensatz zu anderen Kulturkreisen - im
Wesentlichen nur noch in der Homöopathie eingesetzt. Relevante Inhaltsstoffe sind
Alkaloide (insbesondere Berberin), die in der Stammrinde und in der Wurzeldroge in
größerer Menge vorkommen. Mithilfe moderner Methoden konnten unter anderem antimikrobielle,
antiinflammatorische und antirheumatische Wirkungen sowie antihypertensive Aktivitäten
nachgewiesen werden.
Summary
Berberis vulgaris, the common barberry, from the Berberidaceae family, is indigenous to central Europe
and other regions of the world. Since the Middle Ages, all parts of the plant are
used in traditional medicine for the treatment of inflammations, gastrointestinal
disorders, and disorders of the liver, the spleen and the bile as well as infectious
diseases. Nowadays, however, the plant is used in Europe only in homoeopathic preparations
in contrast to other cultures. The most prominent ingredients are alkaloids (especially
berberine) present in considerable amounts mainly in the stem bark and the roots.
The application of modern methods has led - amongst others - to the determination
of the plant's antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic and anti-hypertensive
effects.
