Abstract

A novel anthraquinone, now named sopheranin, has been isolated from the heartwood of Cassia sophera and characterised as 1, 3, 6, 8-tetrahydroxy 2-methyl 7-vinyl anthraquinone along with (β-sitosterol, chrysophanol, physcion and emodin.
