Baerheim Svendsen Department of Pharmacognosy, State University of Leiden, Gorlaeus Laboratories, Leiden, The Netherlands Recommend Article Abstract PDF Download Buy Article Abstract From the stem bark of Aspidosperma marcgravianum WOODSON (Apocynaceae) 7 alkaloids were isolated: 4 secamine-type alkaloids - tetrahydrosecamine, decarbomethoxytetrahydrosecamine and two secamine derivatives of unknown structure - and 3 monomeric indole alkaloids - dihydrocorynantheol, 10,11-dimethoxypicraphylline and a hydroxydimethoxypicraphylline derivative. The secamine-type alkaloids and dihydrocorynantheol exhibited antimicrobial activity against grampositive bacteria.
