Significance

(+)-Jasplakinolide is a macrocyclic cyclodepsi-peptide isolated from a marine sponge. It shows activity against tumor cells and exhibits some antifungal and insecticidal properties. A noteworthy feature is the stereoselective addition of the sodium enolate of ethyl acetate to the scalemic sulfinamine A to give the (R)-β-tyrosine B (F. A. Davis et al. J. Org. Chem. 1995, 60, 7037).
