EUS in numbers

A computer search of the PubMed database (see appendix for search strategy) revealed a total of 255 papers devoted to endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) that were published in English between August 2006 and mid-August 2007. These included 121 original papers (47 %), 78 case reports, comments, or letters (31 %), and 56 reviews or editorials (22 %). Both the numbers and breakdown of original papers by topic area and publishing journal ([Fig. 1]) are almost identical to those reported in a similar review 2 years ago [1]. It seems as though the research on EUS has reached a plateau.
