Abstract

From the rhizomes of Hypoxis obtusa two monoglucosides having the same aglycone as hypoxoside, 1-(3′,4′- dihydroxyphenyl)-5-(3″,4″-dihydroxyphenyl)-1-pen-ten-4-yne, have been obtained. By methylation followed by hydrogenation they have been transformed into the same compound, 1-(3′-methoxy-4′-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-phenyl)-5-(3″-4″-dimethoxyphenyl)-pentane, likewise obtainable through partial hydrolysis of hypoxoside.
