Myringotomy Operation by Otoscopic Technique
Aim of Study: To use an easy procedure to carry out myringotomy surgery when surgical microscope is not available.
Material: Myringotomy instruments. Special examination ENT otoscope with sliding eyepiece. Materials will be discussed in detail during the presentation.
Method: One hundred cases were operated by this technique between January 1, 2002, and December 31, 2004. The technique involves carrying out a myringotomy through the otoscope via the eyepiece in a special way, which will be discussed in detail. The age of patients was between 2 and 57 years. There were 60 males and 40 females. Adenotonsillectomy and bilateral myringotomies were performed in 58 cases, 40 of which had grommets inserted. Myringotomy alone and grommet insertion were performed in 10 patients. Six cases had examination of postnasal space and unilateral grommet insertion. Adenoidectomy and myringotomy were performed in 26 cases, 20 of which had grommets inserted.
Conclusion: This technique is easy, fast, with no reported side effects.
