Glomus tumors are rare benign tumors of the middle ear, bulbus venae jugularis, or the glomus caroticum.

The origin of these tumors from the cervical part of the vagal nerve are very seldom described in the literature.

In our department, we observed a 71-year-old patient with an extensive glomus tumor of the vagal nerve. The first symptom was a difference in the tonsils. The left tonsil was larger than the right tonsil.

Investigation with MRI and CT scans showed a glomus tumor of the vagal nerve with infiltration into the foramen jugulare. Angiographic investigation showed a high blood flow in the tumor. Embolization of the tumor was not possible.

Resection was done through a transcervical incision. The tumor was resected under closure of the tumor vessels with the resection of the vagal nerve.

The presentation discusses our diagnostic and therapeutic procedure.
