Thoraxchirurgische Eingriffe bei Kindern sind insgesamt selten. Neben gutartigen Tumoren
von Lunge und Mediastinum zählen vor allem entzündliche Lungenerkrankungen zu den
Indikationen für einen solchen Eingriff. Unabdingbar für den Erfolg des Eingriffs
ist einerseits die enge Kooperation von Kinderpneumologen, Thoraxchirurgen und Anästhesisten
in einem interdisziplinären Team, andererseits das frühe Einbeziehen der Eltern in
Diagnostik und Therapieplanung. Dabei kommen auch in der Kinderchirurgie zunehmend
minimal invasive Verfahren wie die VATS zum Einsatz. Sie erfordert zwingend die Doppellumenintubation.
