Abdominal pain is one of the more frequent symptoms seen in the doctor's office, medical
emergency centres and hospitals. With regard to the pre-hospital management of patients
with acute abdominal pain, however, the differential diagnosis proves difficult, since
the medical history and the current findings are not as informative as is generally
expected. This, at least, is the finding of an analysis of the post-test probability
of a range of tests in the evaluation of the SESAM study and in the relevant literature.

abdominal pain - pimary care - emergency care - bayes analysis - medical decision
